TUESDAYS WITH DORIE - 15 MINUTES CHOCOLATE AMARETTI CAKE

I could have spent my Saturday morning sleeping, reading a book, or soaking in a hot tub of bubbles.

Because the yankee's birthday was this week, I had promised him a carrot cake. So I got up at 7:00 a.m. and began to bake Big Bill's Carrot Cake. I made it into a sheet cake instead of the three layers and it turned out great. We shared it with our dance friends on Saturday night and they all loved it.

Because I am notorious for trying to multi-task, I also made this week's TWD recipe which was chosen by Holly of Phe/mom/enon . We are keeping this one for ourselves because I love chocolate and. . . I am selfish. Oh Lord it's hard to be humble… Thanks Holly - this was a delicious and very elegant cake.

For me and baking it is like this quote from Louisa May Alcott - "I am not afraid of storms, for I am learning how to sail my ship."

Having read all the helpful comments on TWD, I knew to go to Starbucks to get my amarettini cookies and sure enough they had them. Thanks for all the tips ladies!

I couldn't help but think of Tanya over at Chocolatechic as I was pouring the glaze over the cake. I bet she was loving this week's choice because it was such ooey good chocolate. It's interesting how we read each other's posts each week and through that channel we begin to feel we actually do know each other.

This cake also reminds me of one of my favorite movies, Le Chocolat. Can any of us forget Johnny Depp in that movie? Just one taste was all it took. .. that was the motto of the story.

NEWSFLASH!!!!! Don't forget to leave a comment below on the Easter Give Away and let me know you are willing to pay it forward. It's a great way to share something special with some online friends. It does not have to be a huge gift, just something from the heart. Thanks!

Your torte looks delicious! Chocolat might be the fav movie of all Dorie's bakers.

Your cake looks beautiful! I love the quote that you use to describe baking, too. I loved this torte -- it was a perfect way to begin the chocolate extravaganza that TWD is beginning.

I also love sailing my baking ship...even when it leaks, or sinks (like my yogurt cake!) Yes, I'm glad I made the glaze...and I'm glad you liked this. "Elegant" says it best! Actually, if Mr. Depp said my cake was elegant, I would just faint.

Peggy, my hat's off to your 2 cake morning! Glad they both turned out well (and I realize that I never answered your question about the sheetcake version of the carrot cake -- sorry!) This torte is elegant, especially with your fancy whipped cream piping job.

It looks beautiful Peggy -- glad that you are going to be selfish and keep it. I am SO glad that your carrot cake was a hit, too!

Wouldn't you know that I am totally craving sweets right now, and there is not one darn cookie or piece of cake in a breakroom anywhere around here? What's up with that?

Two cakes in one morning is a spectacular feat. I loved Bill's Big Carrot Cake (a little more than this one).

I laugh when you call your DH a Yankee! teehee. Speaking of carrot cake. I am usually not a fan of cooked carrots but I have to say that Dorie's carrot cake is pretty yummy. Glad you enjoyed the torte!

Your cake looks wonderful and moist. I'm glad you liked it and I am looking forward to eating some as well. Even thought I am fighting the calorie monster right now.

Sleeping late vs. baking chocolate and carrot cake. Hard choices we have to make. Glad you went with the chocolate tarte. Looks great. And so does Depp.

That cake looks great.

I've always loved that quote by Louisa May Alcott. In fact I once tried to stencil that quote onto my wall. Although it didn't turn out all that well because, as it turns out, I'm not all that good at stenciling things in a straight line,
