Creme Brulee???

Mevrouw Cupcake by Mari chose Creme Brulee for this week on TWD.

I've never made creme brulee before so bear with me on this journey. I'm marching to the beat of my own drummer this time! And remember, things are not always as they appear. . .

First, I got all my ingredients together in one spot.

Then, the dry ingredients were mixed by hand.

This is how it looked before the blow torch.
And this is the finished product!

Okay confession time. I do not own a blow torch, and these closely resemble Cheddar Apple Scones! A blow torch on these would have made a nice, crunchy sugary topping on there to break through. Hmm. . that might be worth trying the next time around. We were allowed to do a re-wind this time and since the scones were made before I came onboard with TWD, I wanted to try them. They were delicious. Next time I would like to try them with more apples, a little cinnamon, and maybe a sugar drizzle on top. Or, better yet, dipped in chocolate. Everything is better dipped in chocolate! Maybe I will actually buy a blow torch and try the creme brulee at a later point. Then again, picturing me with a blow torch. . . very scary. Do you have to wear a helmet and goggles while you torch? I'm such a girlie girl. . .would that mess up my hair? I could foresee all sorts of problems with me and a wand of fire! I dunno, I'm just picturing in my mind me without eyelashes.
I bet you all made wonderful creme brulee and I cannot wait to read your blogs about it!

I promised myself I'd make these scones in the fall, since I made them with berries when we had the assignment. I've got to make them-thanks for the inspiration!

I had to laugh at your goggles comment - I made my husband assemble mine and light it for me. I think I got the hang of it though. Your scones look wonderful!

This recipe is great for a re-wind. When my daughter bought Dorie's book (before TWD) these scones were the first recipe we tried. Interesting to have the savory variation on a scone. Yours look good!

Great post, Peggy!! I loved those scones, too. I'm pupmed about the biscotti! I think you would look great with a torch!!

Peggy, I am sure that a blowtorch would come in handy SOMEWHERE with those scones! I am SO glad that you picked these for the rewind -- I've been eyeing them forever, and now I can annoy you with a barrage of questions when I go to make them! They look perfect -- I am so glad that you liked them!

Hehe - you had me going until I looked at the pictures and went - waaait... I loved these scones when we made them, so I'm glad you got a chance to try them out.

I made these before work a couple weeks ago thinking I could whip up a batch quickly in order to bring in freshly baked scones. I ended up being a 1/2 late for work, but it was worth it!
Your scones look great! The torch isn't bad - just tie your hair back and you'll be fine!

I love brownies made the night before. I think they taste even better the next day. The Hepburn brownies are really good. I haven't tried the quintuplet brownies yet. Do you need something fancier than that for your party? I'll be thinking of others....

The scones are good - so you made a good choice. The blowtorch is not as scary as it seems. No glasses required!

I am so sleep deprived that I was actually tricked by your photos...I was thinking how I never knew that's how creme brulee was made. DUH!!! I'm sure DH loved these, huh? Did he pick all the chedder and apples out of them and just leave you with dimply scones???

A tiny little kitchen torch is pretty easy to use, no burnt eyelashes for me, thank you! Those scones were one of my favorite TWD recipes. Hmmm, I should make those again. :)

Hehehe. Nice looking brulee!
Great job on the scones! These were my first TWD assignment and I absolutely loved them. These made the TWD recipes I don't like harder to accept, after these were so delicious I thought I'd love everything from Dorie's book.
