TWD - French Pear Tart

In our group, Tuesdays with Dorie, we were very lucky this week because Dorie Greenspan herself chose our recipe! It is such an honor for her to take the time to do that for us. Thank you Dorie!
Check out everyone's French Pear Tart at TuesdayswithDorie.wordpress.com.

I wanted so badly to do a great job on this recipe if for no other reason than respect for Dorie.

Of course, there is always some drama at my house. First, I have no tart pan. Second, there was the "time" factor. There was also the "I had a sick husband at home and I was trying to take care of him" factor. In taking "care" of him, I had to drag him around all day Saturday and Sunday in the rain to shop because we have a deadline to get a few things done. Poor thing, I did take bottled water, cold meds, and a windbreaker for his protection from the rain. (I'm at least thoughtful while subjecting him to possible pneumonia). He was a real trooper. Also, I still had Christmas presents lying around the house that I needed to find a place for. Is that a problem for anyone else? You get these wonderful presents, and then, where do you store them if it is something you aren't going to use frequently? Always a problem for me. I am a very organized person, with a house full of very disorganized closets!

Last factor, but maybe the most important, I'm reading the Twilight books. If you are reading those, then you understand how difficult it is to put them down and do anything else!!!! I also HAD to go see the movie this weekend so that was another couple of hours of my time. I didn't feel seeing the movie was even optional - I just HAD to see it. I am mid-way of the second book, and again, I cannot put it down.

So I made a french pear pie instead of tart. I used a purchased pie crust (oh no, slap me), that I already had in the freezer. Unfortunately, it was a deep dish crust. I think a thinner one would have worked better.
This recipe was incredibly easy. I thought I placed my pears the way the recipe said to do it. I might be wrong.

The yankee says it is his favorite thing I have made in TWD!!!! He was literally going on and on about it! Always makes my heart proud to know I've pleased him with a food!
As you can see, my crust falls apart when I slice each piece, but it tastes good anyway!

Photos were taken in a rush as well so . . . . forgive me! I'm going to make it a new year's resolution to slow down and smell the roses more often.

Oh Peggy, the poor hubby....being dragged all over the place. he he.

I use shortcuts too sometimes :)
IF you get a chance though, you should make the tart again with Dorie's suggested crust because it was more "shortbread" like. Had a sweetness to the crust. It was Yummy!

Beautiful pie. I won't tell anyone about the crust. I bet it was delicious!

See, you took wonderful care of your hubs by making him this tart, Peggy! We won't tell about the crust (but I will say that the sweet tart crust is wonderful for sometime when you have the time!) As for where to store the Christmas presents -- hell, you've seen my office, Peggy. You know I just throw them any old place!

Your tart looks fabulous -- you were so artistic with your pear formation!

It looks terrific! I fanned out my pears the same way.
I think it's just fine to improvise in a pinch... you did a great job!

That pear fanning was the trickiest part, imo. I like your elegant spokes. The almond cream is so good with the pears, isn't it? If that's your husband's favorite Dorie recipe (and I think it's mine's) then next time make the crust - he will think he's died and gone to heaven!! You can make the tart crust and freeze it - and break up the time commitment into little pieces.

This was one of the best recipes I think I have made so far!
Twlight oh lord your sucked in as well! My 13 year old has read each book more then once seen the movie a few times, has the posters and t-shirt. Needless to say we hear nothing but twlight everyday!
If I had the time to read I might have read them as well!

I like your design better than mine...and I'm so glad you enjoyed this. I made the tart crust (my first ever!) and loved it...but I'm still a fan of storebought. Especially when it gives you more time to read!

Your pie looks great. If you get a chance, make that crust it was that good. Oh, I made my husband take me to the Twilight movie the weekend it opened. We were the only ones in the room over 30.

Love your pear pie. I think the thing about baking is that you have to go with the flow. Great job!
We have been sick at our house too. Hope that your husband feels better. But at least your "tart" made him happy!

Oh girl. I totally understand your Twilight obsession. I read all 4 books in 4 days; Barely eating or sleeping. And I've seen the movie 3x! So your store bought pie crust is forgiven ;)

I think your pears look very nice that way. So happy that you loved the pie!
A few fellow bloggers got me into that series too... lost a couple of weeks with my nose burried in them. They are hard to put down.
As for your man, just give him a couple of shots of straight tequila, works for mine!

Oh, the sacrifices we make for family and baking. Your pie looks great to me. Hope hubby is better.
This looks great despite the drama and acute discomfort (yours) of an ailing spouse.
PS my challenge word verification made me smile, it's "dorke", which is guess a rather fancy one :D

Twilight, huh? I'll have to check that out. :) Your tart looks great, every one needs to use a shortcut now and then.

Isn't it heartwarming when someone you love enjoys what you cook for them? I know it always makes my day and makes me want to make them more. Now I can see why my grandma would always make me certain things over and over!

I like the swirls of pears. I wish I had tired something different than what I did with mine.

I love your shortcuts and it looks just as good. Yumm!
