TWD - Flakey Apple Turnovers

Enjoy the photo of these beautiful apples. Because the following photos you should view at your own risk. My dough did not turn out right. I'm not sure what went wrong, but the stars and the moon did not line up for me. And of course this is my first post for TWD since July because I took a break for our Italy trip. Wouldn't you just know I would mess up on this one? My turnovers are huge - honkers even. And dough was kind of hard and crumbly. Okay I'll admit one thing - I thought that was a tremendous amount of butter to put in the dough and I left a tad of the butter out. Why oh why did I question Dorie? Dorie the master chef. Who am I?

I'm also a horrible wife. The yankee had his gallbladder removed just four days ago and this is what I fed him for dinner tonight because I had to make these apple turnovers that did not even turn out.

If you laugh at the following photo, there is no telling what fate will befall you. I'm just sayin. Halloween is coming. You should smile, not laugh. It's a mess I will admit. I'm not coming to your blogs either to see what wonderful, delicious, flakey, oh so perfectly formed apple turnovers you made. I'm sorry - it would be torture for me. The END.


Of course I'm joking. I would love to see your perfect turnovers and maybe learn something.

Peggy, I think you were brave to leave out some of the butter. I don't think they look THAT bad. Live and learn, right? Hope the Yankee is feeling okay. And thanks for the eye candy. Bradley Cooper seems to be everywhere, but I don't mind looking. ;o)

I cut the butter by making fewer - that's the same thing, right? Actually I like the way your turnovers look, and I hope they tasted just a little bit good? I'm guessing with all that healthy food your hubs is healing quickly!

But how did they taste? Your turnovers look just fine. You could have sprinkled a little icing sugar and called them the world's best and we would believe you.

I don't think it was the butter that you left out that made it hard - this dough needed a steam roller to roll out!! Good on you for perservering and ending up with a batch of turnovers that look great to me. And thanks for the eye candy ;)

They totally look great, well not as hot as the eye candy, thank you, but just the same they really don't look that bad. Sorry you were disappointed. BTW my husband told me he read somewhere that frozen vegies had more nutritional value than fresh because they are harvested at the optimum time. I don't know if I buy that but what if? So see, the Yankee probably really did get a healthy meal. Pics are up. Give yourself a clap clap clap

I too, haven't been getting as around as much as I'd like. Since I'm a reporter now instead of a magazine editor, I'm not at a desk as much and on assignment! I vow to be a better blog buddy!

Lenox Almond Biscotti

This week Gretchen of Canela & Comino chose Lenox Almond Biscotti for our recipe challenge. Oh Gretchen, thank you thank you, thank you! Biscotti has always been one of my favorite foods (especially around the holidays). Who knew someone of so little culinary experience could actually bake biscotti in their own kitchen? It is my turn to host! Almost three years ago I had no idea what a food blog was, much less that there were ladies and gentlemen all across the world baking and writing about such things, and sharing and growing with each other over recipes.  I'm not a chef or a great baker, but I do love to cook for my family so I decided to join in.  Since we are just two days past Mother's Day, I want to thank my sweet mother (who passed away three years ago) for sharing her love of cooking with me.
