CEiMB - Beef Mushroom Barley Soup or NOT?

Let me start out by saying I'm sorry - love soups but this soup just did not appeal to me somehow.  I do not love mushrooms nor do I like barley.  So I prepared the Peggy version of this soup and used penne pasta in it instead of the barley and left the mushrooms completely out.

I wanted to cook along this week so I just changed the recipe to fit our needs.  It was a great soup to carry to work for lunch, especially since we have had rather chilly days this week.  I'm not a fan of winter, but I love soup and chili and spaghetti in the winter months!

The Peggy version looks pretty good to me! We did love the soup, but then we loved all the ingredients so I didn't have to change it up at all. That said, I would happily have sat down to a dish of your version, looks great. Happy New Year and the best to you in 2011!

I like the Peggy version. Hubs is not a mushroom fan so decreased it and chopped really small. Liked he barley, tho.

I added some pasta to some leftovers. Good idea.

TWD - Crunchy Toffee Bars

Every time I bake with toffee chips, I think of Heath Ledger. You get it, right, Heath Toffee / Heath Ledger. I know I'm weird. But in honor of the Oscars this week, I thought a photo of Heath was appropriate. He was a great actor with a brilliant future ahead of him. Sad. Of course, my real photo choice of the week was going to be my personal favorite Hugh Jackman. Since he was the host of the Oscars, I think it only fitting that we post a photo of him, as well, right? After all, he IS the sexiest man alive. Lenox Almond Biscotti

This week Gretchen of Canela & Comino chose Lenox Almond Biscotti for our recipe challenge. Oh Gretchen, thank you thank you, thank you! Biscotti has always been one of my favorite foods (especially around the holidays). Who knew someone of so little culinary experience could actually bake biscotti in their own kitchen? And the greatest thing of all was this was actually one of the easiest things I have baked AND I had all the ingredients I needed right in that pantry of mine. Or so I thought . . .
