Weekend in a French Kitchen - Chilled Pea Soup

So chilled pea soup.   If you asked me even six weeks ago if I would be making pea soup in the near future the answer would have been no.  Peas are not my favorite vegetable.  I can eat them, and I do sometimes, but they are not my first choice.  Having said that, this was quite tasty and an experience I am glad I got the chance to enjoy.   We are cooking from the book Cafe Boulud....With Daniel Boulud and this is only my second recipe to cook from this fabulous book!   The chilled soup was nice for summer fun.    I'm sure I prefer hot soup for the winter.  This is served with a rosemary cream and bacon pieces scattered across the top.   I'm not sure the rosemary cream did much for the overall taste of the soup, but the bacon added a lot of flavor.  It was a nice beginning to our meal.

Now that is some green soup!

Looks great, Peggy. I have to agree with you, pea soup would not have been on my radar but I do love peas so I was happy to have it appear. Will be interesting to see how Mimi's recipe compares later in the month. I have to differ with you on that rosemary garlic cream, I really liked that a lot, it added a nice jazz for me to the soup and the next day I added a bigger swirl of it just for the pleasure of getting a little in each spoonful. I will make that again and add it to different soups, big hit with me. Such fun cooking with you along in this group.

Lovely soup - love the vibrant color. Glad you tried this and enjoyed it. I loved the rosemary garlic cream - it was nice with the soup and great in mashed potatoes the next day. I did think the soup/rosemary cream were better the second day!

Cheers to the French Weekend ahead!

Yes, I feel the same way you do about peas! But this soup was a wonderful, fresh summer dish. Loved the contrast of the salty crunch of the bacon.

What a beautiful bowl of soup!! It's funny, after reading all these posts, I am realizing that peas are a polarizing ingredient. I had no idea.
